Hope for Korah
Invites you to join us and Stand with Korah
Each person in Korah has a story – most are of survival and perseverance in the midst of crushing and heartbreaking circumstances. Korah is also full of beautiful people; each one is important and has hidden within themselves the potential to change their world. Their issues are complex and the pain of poverty is far reaching. What they need is.....HOPE. What does Hope look like? I’d like you to meet Wahle. The photos above and below will give you a brief glimpse of her story; one life out of the many who have been transformed and changed through those who have Stood with Korah.
This past year Hope for Korah (HFK) saw many positive changes; we were able to feed more children at the Berta Breakfast compound, and were able to enrich the lives of youth with girls and boys soccer, small group bible studies, mentoring, and a new youth activity center. We added a youth social worker to help inspire our kids to work hard at school and after-school tutoring. We provided our women with Income Generation opportunities, Self-Help Groups, literacy education and weekly savings. We opened the HFK First Aid Clinic and the Vulnerable People’s Compound, home to families and orphans with significant disabilities. And we upgraded the Elders Home for Lepers. These changes brought hope to an urban slum and this happened because of the generous support, prayers and hard work of many. For those of you who joined us this past year – thank you!
For 2016, our plan is to expand our Berta and Youth Programs while keeping modest growth in other areas so that we can focus our efforts on helping families transition out of sponsorship and into independence. We hope those whom we have assessed and identified as being ready, will be able to take some big steps this next year! To do this we will need to
fill a new role, an Ethiopian social worker who will inspire, support and monitor these families. We are also hoping to have a resident HFK Staff person on the ground for part of this year. Our plan also had to account for rising Ethiopian inflation and a sagging Canadian dollar. Based on the above, our projected budget for 2016 is $440,700 CAD ($329,399 USD). A good percentage of the budget is already pledged or donated, and we are very pleased to share that our recent fundraiser ‘An Evening for Korah’ gave us a great start with $55,000. That leaves us with this goal to raise:$165,000 CAD ($123,329 USD).

Wahle and her daughter used to sit, begging on the streets of Korah. Wahle has limited use of her hands and legs, and this was their only means of survival. They slept on the dirt floor in the corner of a dilapidated hut. (SEE TOP - cover photo) Every day Wahle lived in despair, fearing for her child and their future. TODAY her life has changed! Wahle has HOPE!! She is sponsored through Hope for Korah (HFK) and receives holistic support including food and medical care. Wahle and her children take part in our many programs while living in a safe and loving community; HFK’s “Yesdesta Gibi” meaning House of Joy. We opened this compound in 2015 (BELOW - top right) and it is home to a number of vulnerable families and orphans, all struggling with significant disabilities and medical issues. Wahle’s life and many others are being transformed by the HOPE God brings through those who have generously chosen to STAND WITH KORAH.
