"Loving the Least of These" - The Elderly Lepers' Home

We are very excited about this NEW program-
and are hoping you may join us to serve and
"Love the Least of These"

The Reality of Those Living With Leprosy: For anyone who has ever visited Korah and sat with the Great Hope Charity (GHC) leaders over the lunch hour as they hand feed the elderly lepers, they cannot help but be touched by the leaders' expression of love and humility.  Unable to feed themselves due to their debilitating disease, these lepers walk with their crutches and prosthetics, poor vision and twisted limbs quite a distance over rock and rubble for their only meal of the day.  They have been persecuted and are now alone, without family or the ability to support themselves.  The moment becomes even more poignant when visitors themselves begin to interact with these gentlemen, whom the leaders affectionately refer to as the "Elders".  Whether through conversation, a smile, a helping hand or a hug, spending time with these Elders is both humbling and life changing.

The Call: I am sure that for some, the words of Matthew 25:35-40 comes to mind: "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me..."The Kind will reply, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."

THE REQUEST: Earlier this year, the leaders of GHC approached Hope for Korah (HFK), asking if we would consider partnering with them to open up a home for these elderly lepers, near the Children's Shelter, so that they could better serve and care for them.  At the time most of these elders were living in a horrific compound that was in desperate need of

beds and which I have shared about in earlier blog posts (see links on this and other ‘Elder’ stories below.) Within a few weeks, God provided enough funds to actually purchase new beds and mattresses for every family in that compound!

THE RESPONSE: What is more amazing is that in fundraising for the beds, God also provided enough to cover the initial set up costs for the Elderly Lepers' Home.  These elders will now receive daily care, love and support as they become part of a Christian community with Great Hope Charities! This Elders' Home will also provide an opportunity for our sponsored HFK families to actively serve those from within their own community who are needier than themselves.  We have called this program:
“Loving the Least of These”
The Elderly Lepers’ Home

THE NEED:  As mentioned already, the setup costs are covered, but we are still praying for those who would like to partner with us through a  MONTHLY SPONSORSHIP to cover the DAILY COSTS of serving these Elders.  We calculate the overall cost for food, housing, clothing, routine healthcare and daily provision for seven of these men will be around $400/month.  We are one quarter of the way there.  There is no specified sponsorship amount, but we are hoping people will pray and respond as God leads them.  We envision a group of people from various places, who will not only 'love the least of these' through monthly giving, but through prayer, letters and photographs, building relationships with them.  We are excited to bring God's love and dignity to these who have suffered much.  We want them to know how very much God loves them; they are important and they are not forgotten!

THE NEW REALITY!: Below are some photos that have just arrived from Korah.  Once again, God has provided above and beyond what we could imagine or think.  Recently HFK has begun renting a compound near the GHC Children's Shelter and it has an existing home for the elders that is much more than we ever expected - in contrast to most Korah homes, it has REAL floors, proper walls, wooden doors and a bathroom!  And just this week, five of the elders have been moved out of the old compound and into this new home!!  I was not there in person to witness this awesome event - but as is often said; "A picture paints a thousand words" and that you will see their faces below!!

THE WAY YOU CAN GET INVOLVED: If you or your small group or church, would like more information on partnering with us through a monthly sponsorship to support "Loving the Least of These" - The Elderly Lepers' Home please contact me (Eve Pohl) directly at eve@hopeforkorah.com  It might also interest you to know that HFK is under a registered charity 'International Discipleship Training' in both the US & Canada, so all giving is tax receipt-able.

  1. Joanne asked me to post: Wow, what an amazing building and post - a foreshadowing of their new and beautiful heavenly home when all things will be made new and their room is being prepared by our Almighty God himself.
